Survived First 4 Nights!
Well, I've lost track of time, as being a full-time puppy mommy has demanded all of me. So, I'll play catch up with this post.
Jazzy has adapted more and more to her surroundings, and is sleeping longer and staying up longer at each time. It's funny, because during the day she will walk herself to the kennel when it is time to sleep, or will stay in there even with the door open if she wants to take a nappy (she is SERIOUS about her naps!). But at night, she cries more, even when she has been potty and has had exercise. So we have tried a different technique each night, so she will sleep better (meaning WE will sleep better). For the past couple of days, we have opened the door to my closet, and placed her kennel in there, under my short clothes, and she likes that den-like surrounding. Last night, we decided to close the door to our bedroom-meaning she only had access to our bedroom and bathroom, both sans-carpet. We placed her in the kennel with the door open, and had a couple of her toys around her. She slept much better that way, than with the kennel-door closed. I got up with her a couple of times-she would go potty, exercise just a little-and back in beddy-bye in just minutes. Russ and I both slept much better. Once she did try to climb our stack of throw pillows by the bed, to try to gain access to sleep with us, but Russ was persistent at saying "no" and putting her back down on the floor. Before long she got the hint and walked back to her kennel to sleep. Good girl!
Today she has been content to play by herself more. This is allowing me to get caught up on reading e-mail (I have over 200 waiting for me), doing laundry, and writing articles for Monday deadlines.
She has also discovered she likes the sunbeams. She will play there contently for several minutes at a time. Then she will miss me, and you can hear her wimpering through the house, trying to find me. She has a hard time following the sound of one's voice-it will come. she's just a little baby!
And she likes music on TV. She will be playing away, and when certain songs come on TV, she stops what she is doing, looks toward the TV, cocks her head back and forth, and listens. And there are some commercials that she loves to watch. How funny! I hope she will be a music lover. Mijo did NOT appreciate music, especially if we were practicing at home. He would howl and if we put him out of the room, he would scratch the door wanting to come back in so he could howl some more!
Jazzy is still learning her name. That is the first thing we are trying to work on. Well-that and housetraining. We take her outside about every 2 hours during daylight, and she goes potty with no prompting. But during the night we hate to go out in the cold, so we have wee-wee pads for her to potty on in the bathroom. Sometimes she uses them, sometimes she refuses to-even if she really has to go. Then she will find a certain spot in the dining area she thinks is private (and probably has a scent from previous pets), and goes potty in full rebellion. To get her used to the wee-wee pads, I decided to put a row of them where she goes, and see if she will realize that is where she is supposed to go. Then, we can remove the pads, and try to get her to use the ones in the bathroom. As her bladder gets bigger and gets trained, she will be able to hold it much longer, and we will be able to take her out each time. Oh-I long for THOSE days! :-)
