Opposites

They say one shouldn't try to replace something they have loved and lost, because nothing will be able to take the place of that person or animal. So, we have been careful not to expect Jazzy to be like our last B.T., Mijo. The only thing we expected of her was to have the bond of owner to pet-that was what we missed most by not having a dog. We have not been disappointed.

We HAVE found it funny to see how different Mijo and Jazzy are. Yes, they both have the typical Boston Terrier traits, but here are some differences between the two:

-M. liked car rides, J. does not (hopefully she will grow to like them)
-M. did not like music, J. stops everything to enjoy music
-M. had a hard time remembering to drink when a puppy, J. has a hard time remembering to eat (she loves to drink)
-M. had a hard time sleeping at night, J. has adjusted quite well to it
-M. caused Libby (our calico) to not share the same space with us, Libby LIKES being in the same room with Jazzy-even encourages J. to chase her
-M. learned to bark early-though not often, J. rarely barks
-M. didn't chew much as a pup, J. OFTEN chews on whatever she can find
-M. was too busy to be held much, J. loves being a lap dog more often

BTW-we pulled up old photos of Jazzy, and we can't believe how much she has grown in the less than 4 weeks since we have owned her. And she is all leg right now. Guess she is in that gawky adolescent age! :-)

9.5 Weeks

Jazzy bounced back from her sprained paw in just one day. The vet said young animals are amazing in their recovery time. I guess so! You could see a soft tissue injury in the shadow on the x-ray, showing swelling-but it was gone, and she was ready to play chase by that very night. Too bad WE don't bounce back that well from our injuries! My sprained ankle took many weeks!

She is now nine-and-one-half weeks old and weighs 7.5 pounds. I have no idea how she is gaining weight-she doesn't really like to eat. She is supposed to eat 3-4 meals a day at this age, and have 1-2 cups of food for the day. She is eating at most 3/4 cup of food a day. I guess, like any other creature, she will eat when she is hungry!

She learned to walk down the stairs in our bilevel home. Well, sort of. She did it tentatively a few times. But then she missed the last step and hit face first on the landing. Now, she just goes down a stair or two and sits there trembling. I guess she remembers that fall! She will learn it when it is time-and until then I'll just have to keep my eye on her. She only tries to go down when someone is on the landing, because she wants to be where the people are. She really hasn't discovered the lower level of our home! She does, however love to climb stairs-almost running up them. So funny!

She also has learned how to jump off of the couch, chair or ottoman. She doesn't just jump down-she jumps OUT-like a long jumper. I'm telling you-she is preparing for the agility course. She even likes to jump over hurdles (our legs).

She is still wanting to chew on things and tear up anything made of paper. We have had to put everything on a higher elevation. Sort of like baby proofing your house-we have doggy proofed it!

Jazzy went to bed at 10:30 last night, and slept until 5:15 a.m. before she stirred. She might have slept all night, but I didn't want an accident, so I took her to her special potty pads to go #1. Good girl-and back to bed. I woke up at 8 a.m. and she didn't really want to get up then, but didn't want to be away from me either. I had to use the restroom, so left her in the bedroom, master bath area (Russ was in the shower), while I went to the other bathroom. When I got back, she had, all by herself, used the potty pads! Good for Jazzy. And now, when she has to go #2 in the day, if we don't get her outside in time, she runs to the potty pad to do her business. I'm so proud of her! But, I have to say I've been much more faithful at being regular with taking her outside to relieve herself. We go every 1-2 hours of our waking day. That has caused us to have zero accidents that were Jazzy's fault. There was one or two accidents that were OUR fault for not paying attention to her when she said she needed to go outside NOW!

Jazzy Has A Boo-Boo

Jazzy and I had *SOME* morning! She was wanting to nibble on me, or grab hold of my pant legs. I'm trying hard to break her of using her teeth like that. Have read up on several techniques. One that seemed to hold promise was isolating her from the social scene, since she is such a social animal (sorta like a time out). Well, after one such period, she was getting some reassurance from me that I still loved her, that she just couldn't hurt me with her teeth, and we were watching a tape of Dancing With The Stars together (she likes the music). She was playing with her toy, and it fell off of the couch. She took a dive after it, and hyperextended her left front paw-all of her weight fell on it. She immediately started to yelp, and then to cry. Her paw went limp and a bulge started to form. Oh my-she was really hurt! She tried to walk on it, and crumbled. I picked her up and tried to console her. Nothing worked-she was crying like a baby-and holding her paw out like, "I've got an owie!"

So, I called Russ and asked him to come home, since he is just five minutes away and it was near lunchtime anyway. I had to change out of my sweat pants to go out, and that is hard to do with a dog in your arms. I put her down, and she would try to come to me for comfort, and it would hurt her. So I eventually put her in her kennel so I could get ready to go and she would not injure herself worse.

The vet had us come right in to the office, and they were so nice! By then, she was able to put some weight on it, and she wasn't just letting it dangle. The doc said puppy bones are so rubbery, that it is possible she didn't break it. But he was concerned with the little bit of swelling, and that she was still hobbling around. So, he said he would have to sedate her slightly-the kind that wears off fast, and then have her x-rayed, and maybe put a splint on it. The x-rays showed some soft tissue injury-a sprain-but no breaks. He showed us the x-ray and explained it all to us. He said she was getting around okay so he decided not to wrap or splint it. But, she is to be subdued in her activity today, and maybe tomorrow.

Well, when they brought her out, she was whimpering and she had everyone wrapped around her little paw. She cried the whole way home, so I put her straight to bed and now she is sleeping soundly.

It's no fun having your baby hurt! But they are resilient and she will be fine-she is already so much better than she was in that first half hour.

More Firsts and Funnies

Yesterday was Russ's day off, so we both had plenty of time to work with Jazzy. We purchased a doggie bed for her. It is oval shaped with a center section and then a ring around that. Overstuffed, and covered with a fuzzy type top and a suede type bottom (all polyester washable). Jazzy LOVES it! We put it in the living room while we were there, and she learned some neat stunts. We would put her on the ottoman, and she would jump to her bed. We placed the bed further and further away from the ottoman, and she made the dive every time but one. It was so fun to watch her stunts! We put the bed by the side of our bed, and Jazzy slept there all night, getting up just a couple of times to do her business. Not bad for an 8 week old. We slept well!

Jazzy also learned how to climb up a little step stool (one step) to then climb up onto the couch or the ottoman. We are working with her to learn stairs so that when we add a door downstairs to the back yard and her eventual dog run, she will be able to go down the stairs and out the doggie door when nature calls. For now, she will climb stairs, but she is too scared to go down them.

Jazzy had her second bath last night. She whimpers a little while she is standing in the water, and we have her lifted up on just two paws so we can massage the special shampoo into her dry skin/hair. We are supposed to work the product in for 15 minutes, but she cries so much we only make it for about 8 minutes. Then, I used my sprayer from the sink to rinse her off. She LIKED that part of it! I think she will get used to baths soon, and will like them. Next time, I'm going to NOT put water in the sink, and see if just soaking her down with the sprayer and massaging the shampoo in that way will be better than her standing in water. Whatever works!

We got snow overnight, and Jazzy likes it! But she doesn't like getting cold, and starts to shiver quickly. Even though it was snowing, and the ground was covered in snow, she had to run away from us to a private spot to do #2. For some reason, she likes her privacy with that one (or should I say two?). Crazy girl!

Now, I can take her little bed into whatever room I'm in, and put her toys in the groove between the oval section of the bed and the ring section, and she is set for entertainment. This will work well in my office so I can get some writing and correspondence done. She's pretty good about entertaining herself.

We left early this morning to be with a friend waiting to go back to surgery. We left before 7 a.m., and returned at 8 a.m. Jazzy had placed herself back in her kennel, and even shut the door closed, while we were gone. That was so cute! She loves her nappies!

8 Weeks Old-Progress!

Jazzy is now 8 weeks old (6.5 pounds), and we are having fun seeing the progress she is making. Nighttime is not near the issue it was just a couple of days ago. She is getting up twice a night to go potty, and then she goes back to sleep (with a little coaching).

She can hold things with her front paws, and she likes to chase tennis balls and bring them back to us. Not bad for 8 weeks old! She can walk up stairs with help, but is still too afraid to go downstairs.

When we take her to our backyard, she enjoys jumping up and over and through various obstacles-real cute! I think she is cut out for learning the doggy agility course. Perhaps we will set one up in our backyard-would be cheaper than getting cable this summer when reruns are on the major networks!

Something else she likes to do is play with the spring-like door-stops with the rubber tips on them, that go "boooiing" when you hit them. She loves to make that sound!

Jazzy is in the "chewing" stage, so we try to keep her equipped with rawhides and toys to chew on rather than our hands and other things!

Today, I took her out for a short walk with her collar and leash. She thinks part of the deal is for HER to hold the leash in her mouth! She has a lot of learning to do!

She's Learning!

Last night, we put Jazzy back in her kennel, with the door to it open, in my closet, with the closet door open. She likes that "nook" best. In fact, she walked herself to the kennel and fell asleep all on her own last night. So, we just put down a couple more "wee wee pads" in the bedroom/bathroom area (all hard surfaces), and closed the door to the rest of the house. We decided, if she woke up, to just encourage her to go potty on the papers, and then go back to bed. No cuddling with Jazzy in the middle of the night. Get her trained! So, she slept from 10:30 to 2:30-her longest at one time! She woke up, walked to my side of the bed, I heard her (she didn't even cry), took her to the papers, told her to go potty, she did, and then I walked her back to her kennel. She didn't stay, so Russ got up and encouraged her to stay in her kennel. So she was back asleep by 2:50 a.m. and so were we! Then, again at 5:30 a.m. I heard her sort of crying, and noticed she had at some point in time, gotten out of her kennel and was nesting on my fuzzy robe by the side of the bed. No biggie-as long as she let us sleep. I took her to the paper, and she didn't do her business, so I took her back to the kennel and went back to sleep. When we woke at 6:30 a.m., we noticed she had taken herself to the papers to do her business again without us. She's LEARNING! AND-she let us sleep!

Also, she is learning to scratch at the door when she wants to go out (when we are awake and in the great room). She loves going outside when the weather is nice. When weather is not nice, she begs to come back in by walking up a step or two as a big hint. "No playing around, I'm getting cold!" She shivers like a bowl of jello!

This afternoon, we both took her outside, to have some play time. After she did #1 and #2, I gave her her first treat outside (normally we wait to come in). She looked all over for the perfect hiding place for her treat. She dug a hole, buried it, ran away, ran back, removed it, took it elsewhere, buried it...you get the picture. Our question was, would she eat it or leave it? She did decide to leave it behind, after burying it at least 5 times. So, I gave her another treat when we came inside, to reward her for learning delayed gratification (if a dog can really learn that), and she hid that one too! I have a feeling she will hunt it soon, as it is her favorite treat!

Just in the past 24 hours, she has had a couple of interactions with Libby. Libby (our calico cat, almost 10 years old) has decided to be a part of the family even though there is an intruder in our household by the name of Jazzy. She watches over our activity and is nearby as often as she was prior to 1-3-06. They are both curious about each other, so there is much sniffing and face-offs. When Jazzy discovered Libby's tail, Libby learned to quickly relocate it. But when Jazzy was within inches of her, face to face, Libby decided to let out her first hiss to Jazzy, just to let her know who was really the boss. They seem to have come to an understanding, for now...

And the funniest moment of the day was when we could hear Jazzy clunking around in the closet, and we heard her dragging something out of my office and into the hallway. What to our surprised eyes we did see...Jazzy with a mouth full of a billy club. I wonder what that caption would read? "Walk softly and carry a big stick!"

New Strategy

I guess I was looking a bit harried, or Russ just knew my health could be hindered by not getting restorative sleep for days on end (because of getting up with Jazzy so frequently during the night). I was getting up with Jazzy so Russ could sleep since he had to work. I didn't mind hearing her cry some-all puppies will do that, but hated the idea that she would wake up Russ. Well, Russ assured me that he didn't mind, he just sleeps more soundly than me, so doesn't wake up until after I've taken care of Jazzy's needs (and wants).

So, last night we put Jazzy's kennel in our guest bath, left the kennel open so she could get out and do her business on the wee wee pads, and shut the bathroom door. She did NOT like her new surroundings and cried. I'm guessing she cried herself to sleep. I had taken a couple of Tylenol PM to help me sleep more soundly, so I missed just how long she cried. I guess you could say she cried ME to sleep! Russ did get up 3 times that I know of during the night when Jazzy's cries were more urgent. One time, he found her stuck in the bathtub. Another time she was stuck on top of the toilet seat and she had unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper. Not sure how she got there, but guessing she used her kennel to climb on. So Russ moved that to avoid any injuries. I haven't talked to Russ yet, but I was grateful for the sleep, and that he was willing to take care of Jazzy during the night so I could get caught up.

I know mothers of infants are laughing at our situation-and saying, "at least they can ignore their 'baby's' cries if they want to."

We'll see what tonight brings! Tomorrow is church, so Russ needs to be on top of his game. That means its up to me again to check on Jazzy.

Jazzy's Firsts...

Jazzy has experienced a few firsts in the past 24 hours.
-She was all alone on the couch, and she wanted down but was too afraid to jump down, so she let out her first little puppy bark. Amazing to me that she would be 52 days old before she barked a real bark. It was just a tiny little "arf." So cute. I'm glad she isn't a big barker!
-She knocked over my office trashcan (she is going through her terrible twos) and discovered a piece of discarded chewing gum. So she started to...chew it! Not swallow it, but chew it like a human being. Hilarious! Of course, I fished it out of her mouth. Not the first thing I've had to retrieve from that curious kisser of hers!
-She has discovered stairs, but she is mostly afraid of them. With help, she will try to climb as many as 2 or 3 stairs, but no more than that. And she is petrified of going down. That's a good thing, as small as she is. But we would rather she learn how to do stairs before she takes a fall. Right now, the stairs are blocked off.
-She enjoys something poured over her kibble. Today we poured some extra chicken broth over her food, and she loved it so much she lapped it up and left the kibble!
-She likes the smell of lip balm on my lips. She thinks it is an open invitation to give me a big ol' kiss. Not gonna' happen! (Not on the lips, anyway.)

The Learning Curve

Well, Jazzy is learning (not all of it good!). We want her primary toilet to be out-of-doors, but because of her small bladder and not being big enough for a collar and leash to fit, we have "wee wee pads" inside for when she must have an indoor toilet. (Reminds me of the outhouse at Granny and Papa's!-but that is another story for another blog)

She has learned quite well to use the wee-wee pads. She has only had a couple of carpet mistakes in the past couple of days-normally she will go to the pads on her own, and then when we place her there, she also goes (anyone ever notice just how OFTEN little puppies have to go?).

Well, I took her outside yesterday, and she didn't use the restroom-just wanted to play. It was cold, so I brought her back in. Not five minutes later, she had gone both #1 and #2 at her indoor "facility." Why oh why didn't she go outside? Normally, that is the first response to being out-of-doors, so I'm not sure why yesterday was different. Hopefully, with time we can withdraw the pads and have her go outside 100% of the time.

Funny how new parents of any kind have more pee pee and poo poo in their conversation than the normal public! haha! Talk about potty mouth!

Jazzy has learned a couple of other things:
#1-She has learned the bag that holds her food, and now when she is hungry, she will go to the bag and nudge it. "Hint, hint, Mom!"

#2-She decided to take a nap in a place where I couldn't find her. She was playing the game, "hide-and-go-nap." I looked everywhere for her, because the house was so quiet I got worried! Where oh where was Jazzy? Not in her kennel. Not under the beds. Not under the table. Then I had a hunch. One of her blankies was on the floor, all crumpled up. I found Jazzy cocooned inside the blanket. I'm glad I found her before we stepped on the blanket. I guess Jazzy has learned how to cover herself up when she is cold! Crazy Jazzy-girl!

Secrets To A Good Night's Sleep (for puppy)

Well, something worked right last night! Jazzy had her medicine a few hours before bedtime (Albon), had a soothing bath, and we removed her food bowl 3 hours before bedtime.

She fell asleep out in the living room, so I just carried her to her kennel at around 11 p.m. Then we dropped off in a sound sleep (being the sleep deprived puppy parents we are!). Next thing we knew, it was 3 a.m. and Jazzy was ready to go potty. This was the longest she had slept through the night, so we were happy-happy! She tinkled, but nothing else.

She fell back asleep, so I put her back in her kennel, and that is when we had an hour of "dealing with her." She just wanted to be with us. We thought it was because she was cold since we sleep better cold-so we put a little space heater near her (the safe ceramic kind). That didn't work. She kept pacing around the bed, whimpering and wanting to be with us. I kept putting her in her kennel. Nothing worked. I took her back out to see if she needed to use the bathroom. Nope. So, Russ decided to try a "Super Nanny" trick. He put her back in the kennel, then petted her and helped her fall close to sleep, saying nothing. Then he stayed there for a while, and she fell further asleep. Then he backed away slowly-and it worked!

She woke me back up at 6 something-and I was so asleep I can't remember if she went potty or just wanted comforted. I held her for a while out in the living room, then put her back to the kennel. She stayed.

Usually she wakes up with Russ, but today, she just slept through it all. I woke up, and she was still in her kennel. She finally woke up around 8:45 a.m., had a big appetite for breakfast (she had not really wanted breakfast any day we have had her), and she did her business like a good girl.

I would say this was a night of real victories, and true sleep is just around the corner for all of us!

Funny Quote About Puppies

We were told a funny quote last night that suits us to a T. They said, if reincarnation was for real, what animal would you most want to come back as.
The answer? A dog owned by a childless couple. No kidding—talk about living the life of luxury!

Jazzy's First Bath

Jazzy had her first bath in the sink tonight. She started lapping up the warm water, thinking she was just standing in a very large water bowl! But then when we started getting her all wet and lathering up the shampoo, she decided she didn't like it, and she started shivering and fidgeting. We were supposed to keep her lathered up for 15 minutes, but I'm sure we gave in much sooner than that! :-)

But now-her hair feels and looks like velvet. And the scent of the shampoo was something like pina colada-very nice!

We are hoping she will like it better the next time. Mijo actually begged for baths. Every dog is different, though!

Good Vet Visit!

Jazzy went to vet for the first time here (she had been before with her previous owner). We had Dr. Yvonne Hoffman at the Burlington Pet Hospital, right up the road. She said that Jazzy is a good pick-she has a good disposition and her facial structure is excellent. She said she will keep an eye on Jazzy's nasal passages, since she is a pug nose breed, but it looks good now. For the symptoms, she said she figured Jazzy had parasites, but the fecal sample tested fine. The vet said that Jazzy can still have a parasite though, since they took just a small sample to look at. She found Jazzy's skin/hair to be extra dry, which can also be caused by the parasites OR just be her type. So, she gave us Albon liquid to administer with a syringe daily for about 12 days. It is a yellow substance, and I figured Jazzy would fight us-but she actually licked it all up! The vet also gave us a soap free shampoo that will treat the skin/hair (and it was a free 8 oz. sample, so she wasn't just trying to sell us something). She weighted 5.5 pounds and we go back in 2 weeks for shots.

A Funny

Jazzy is doing the same little cute antic Mijo used to do. She can't tell which way a door opens, and every time she sticks her nose in anticipation, on the hinge side of the door. I have to physically show her the open side before she realizes her boo-boo. Not sure how old they get before they know which way each door swings, but until then, she'll be staring at hinges!

Jazzy to Go to Vet Today

Jazzy didn't feel so good last night and slept even more than normal. Her belly was upset. Also, I've noticed an increasing amount of hairloss, and I'm guessing she has mites, typical for puppies, that will need to be treated. A shame-because her coat was so pretty. It's still pretty, but I want to nip this in the bud. So-even though she isn't due for her shots for a couple of weeks, we will go to the vet for the first time with her today, just to get on top of this.

7 Weeks Old

Jazzy turned 7 weeks old yesterday. We've had her one week, and I can already see so much growth. She is such a contented puppy. Very energetic, with bursts of crazy silliness, but also sleeps well, and is not a pest.

Jazzy has learned to love her kennel, and we don't even have to keep the kennel door shut to keep her contained. She does come out to get us when she needs to use the potty-but we are GLAD for that! Then, she is ready to go back to sleep for a while (if it is nighttime).

During the daytime, Jazzy is staying up longer now. Her first day, she was only awake about 20 minutes every hour. Now she stays up for about 2-3 hours at a time, and then naps for 60-90 minutes in the daytime. At night, she is resting for about 3 hours between potty breaks. Not bad.

We have not heard her bark yet! She does make a funny whiney scream when she is yawning. It is cute. She used to whimper when she looked for us after waking up, but now she does not panic so much. She just walks around until she is more alert, and then plays.

When music is playing, Jazzy stops whatever she is doing to listen. She turns her head back and forth as she focuses her ears in the direction of the sound. So cute. Makes her name appropriate!

Yesterday, we left her for 4 hours in the morning to go to church (we work there, so we are there longer than the average Joe), and again last night we were gone 3.5 hours. We put Jazzy in our bedroom/bathroom area (hard surfaced floors), and she was content while we were gone. No barking, no crying, no destruction of property! LOL!

Today we went out at lunchtime to play with Jazzy in our backyard. She loved having us both out there (normally just one of us takes her out to "do her business"). She ran like a speed demon, from one fence to another. She jumped up and over various hurdles/obstacles. I'm thinking it would be fun to set up a doggy agility course. Our cat, Libby, watched from the window. So, the whole family got in on the fun!

Survived First 4 Nights!

Well, I've lost track of time, as being a full-time puppy mommy has demanded all of me. So, I'll play catch up with this post.

Jazzy has adapted more and more to her surroundings, and is sleeping longer and staying up longer at each time. It's funny, because during the day she will walk herself to the kennel when it is time to sleep, or will stay in there even with the door open if she wants to take a nappy (she is SERIOUS about her naps!). But at night, she cries more, even when she has been potty and has had exercise. So we have tried a different technique each night, so she will sleep better (meaning WE will sleep better). For the past couple of days, we have opened the door to my closet, and placed her kennel in there, under my short clothes, and she likes that den-like surrounding. Last night, we decided to close the door to our bedroom-meaning she only had access to our bedroom and bathroom, both sans-carpet. We placed her in the kennel with the door open, and had a couple of her toys around her. She slept much better that way, than with the kennel-door closed. I got up with her a couple of times-she would go potty, exercise just a little-and back in beddy-bye in just minutes. Russ and I both slept much better. Once she did try to climb our stack of throw pillows by the bed, to try to gain access to sleep with us, but Russ was persistent at saying "no" and putting her back down on the floor. Before long she got the hint and walked back to her kennel to sleep. Good girl!

Today she has been content to play by herself more. This is allowing me to get caught up on reading e-mail (I have over 200 waiting for me), doing laundry, and writing articles for Monday deadlines.

She has also discovered she likes the sunbeams. She will play there contently for several minutes at a time. Then she will miss me, and you can hear her wimpering through the house, trying to find me. She has a hard time following the sound of one's voice-it will come. she's just a little baby!

And she likes music on TV. She will be playing away, and when certain songs come on TV, she stops what she is doing, looks toward the TV, cocks her head back and forth, and listens. And there are some commercials that she loves to watch. How funny! I hope she will be a music lover. Mijo did NOT appreciate music, especially if we were practicing at home. He would howl and if we put him out of the room, he would scratch the door wanting to come back in so he could howl some more!

Jazzy is still learning her name. That is the first thing we are trying to work on. Well-that and housetraining. We take her outside about every 2 hours during daylight, and she goes potty with no prompting. But during the night we hate to go out in the cold, so we have wee-wee pads for her to potty on in the bathroom. Sometimes she uses them, sometimes she refuses to-even if she really has to go. Then she will find a certain spot in the dining area she thinks is private (and probably has a scent from previous pets), and goes potty in full rebellion. To get her used to the wee-wee pads, I decided to put a row of them where she goes, and see if she will realize that is where she is supposed to go. Then, we can remove the pads, and try to get her to use the ones in the bathroom. As her bladder gets bigger and gets trained, she will be able to hold it much longer, and we will be able to take her out each time. Oh-I long for THOSE days! :-)

New Blog-New Dog!

Jazzy came into the world 11/20/05, and into our lives 1/3/06. She is a little over 6 weeks old and weighs 5 pounds even. Her owner said this litter was the first and last time she will breed her dam, who is a family pet. So she wasn't from a puppy mill. Her tail was bobbed and dew claws removed, as well as first shots and worming, before we met her, so that saved us some money.

Endearing Qualities:
-Precious feminine face with dainty eyes and wrinkled up nose.
-Likes to back up as much as going forward when she walks.
-Flopped-over ears, which will perk up as she matures.
-Cute markings of black and white, typical Boston Terrier.
-Good balance of playfulness and rest.
-She loves to be wherever we are-can you say "shadow"?
-She gets rollie-pollie and topsy turvy-cute when she's clumsy!-Reminds me of a weeble!

First Night:
-Fell asleep on my chest, while I rested on the couch. Then I transferred her to her kennel.
-She slept 20 more minutes in the kennel, then woke up to go potty.
-Fell asleep on me again, back to kennel, and slept 40 minutes. Going up-sleeping longer!
-Woke up, went potty, exercised, then fell asleep on me, and back to kennel. This time she slept a whole hour! This cycle was repeated again.
-Last time in the kennel she was there about 40 minutes, then she was wide awake-around 6 a.m.
-That was Russ's time to wake, so they played while I slept in the bed for an hour.

This was much better than Mijo's first night (our previous Boston Terrier)-so I'm rejoicing in what sleep I got. The best news is that she is getting used to her kennel and likes it-will sleep longer as her bladder gets trained.

Oh to sleep when she sleeps and plays when she plays, but the laundry is calling me!
